How My Passions Have Helped My Mental Health

We all have a passion. Whether it's a long-time hobby, or something as simple as being outside enjoying nature. Whatever your passion may be, pursuing, embracing, and chasing it is definitely a boost for your mental health. Wear Your Label's photographer Kelsey shares her biggest passions and how they've helped improve her mental health:

Sometimes, we have more than one passion, for me photography is a huge one, but I also love travelling, fashion blogging, and summer (yes I’m calling summer one of my passions). Just doing these things is a huge booster for my mental health.

Photography
really helps me to go into my own little world of positivity. There’s no limit to the creative freedom my camera gives me; I can express whatever I’m feeling though a camera. I’ll spend hours online looking at photos and it just takes me away from whatever is bothering me. The inspiration I take from other photographers and Instagram is huge, because it really makes me happy when I see how beautifully and different the world is captured through other people’s eyes.

Travelling has always been a passion of mine. I’ve been lucky enough to be able to travel often. Thinking about an upcoming trip always gets my spirits high and being on a plane takes all my worries away. Going to another country and experiencing the culture is another booster for my mental health. Don’t get me wrong though, travelling an hour away to go to a different city or the beach is just as rewarding to me as going to another country. (If you have the travel bug and you’re on a budget, here’s an article to help you out)

Fashion Blogging is quite a new passion of mine. During my internship with Wear Your Label, I went to Florida for spring break. I took some WYL swag with me and got my boyfriend, Jamie, to do some photos of me in the shirt for the website. After that I found myself itching to get in front of the camera again. I admit, self-confidence has always been a big struggle of mine, so after seeing my photos on the WYL website, it was a huge confidence and mental health lift. I felt empowered and suddenly the self-confidence issues I’ve always had went away for brief period. Self-confidence has always been a negative contributor towards my mental health; so fashion blogging is an outlet that I can go to as a way to better my mental health. I love putting looks together and then having the shots that I plan in my head be real and getting the opportunity to write about myself in these looks is such an amazing and honestly, extremely fun way to better my mental health.

Summer!! I just love summer. For someone like me who despises the cold, winter is not my friend. So when summer comes around, it’s an automatic boost to my mental health. Things like going to the beach, going for walks in the sunset, going on road trips, walking barefoot through the grass, fishing, laying in a hammock, getting ice cream, the list goes on... These are all things that are major key to my self-care.

So, no matter what your passion is, we all have that one thing that makes us feel good. Tap into that, enjoy the moment, and let your mental health get all the good vibes.
