Fav thing about your city: The walking bridge! You can see all of Fredericton’s beauty from one beautiful place
Tell us a fun fact about yourself! I am extremely impulsive… A prime example is when I went to the pet store to get a goldfish and came out with two guinea pigs
What is your connection to mental illness?
I have been struggling with depression and anxiety since high school. When talked to a doctor about it and finally other people in my family and friend groups, I found out that a lot of people that I am close to suffer from similar issues.
Before going through my own battle and finally talking about it, I had no idea that so many people suffered from mental illnesses because it was never talked about and people were afraid to reach out!
What does your everyday look like?
Most days I wake up (later than I was supposed to, of course) and rush to get ready for classes. Ideally, I make it to all of my classes (which doesn’t always happen). Once I’m done with the school part of the day, I either sit down and do some work or head to the gym. Some days I feel little to no effect from my mental illness and others I can’t make it out of bed.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
If something feels wrong, it probably is. Whether it’s a vibe from a stranger, friend, or your own body. If something doesn’t feel right, reach out to someone because it may be a bigger issue than you think. I learned this lesson plenty of times but this especially true when I first started experiencing symptoms from my depression and I wasn’t sure why I was having such a hard time getting out of bed and doing things I do every day.
Who is a Role Model to you?
Is it cheesy if I say anyone that works for Wear Your Label? Usually for this question I talk about my parents and how strong they are and how I value what they taught me. As always, that is true. I’m choosing to say the people of Wear Your Label as well as other companies that work toward ending the stigma while providing people a creative outlet to produce content and bring attention to something is so important.
How do you spend your Self-Care Sunday?
If I’m lucky and don’t have too much homework, I spend my self-care Sundays in bed eating either left-overs or take out. I only leave my bed to take a bath or socialize with my roommates. Most importantly, my cats are around regardless of what I’m doing.
