What is your connection to mental illness?
I have a connection to mental health through living with anxiety and depression for the past couple of years as well as being a Residence Coordinator. Working with students in campus dorms is extremely rewarding because not only do I get to see them at their worst, as well as help them at these times, but I also get to see them at their best and when they feel confident about themselves. The ability to be that person they come to for help is not only rewarding, but also really good for mine own mental health.

How do you deal with stress from school?
The best way I have found is getting away from school, like going home or even just getting off campus. One thing I learned very fast was “cabin fever” is 100% a thing, even a walk in the woods or downtown can do wonders for my mental health. My favorite is to head downtown alone and go to random coffee shop and study, the smells and sounds are wonderful!

What does your campus do to help with students' mental health?
 STU is pretty good at this because they have a lot of resources on campus or at the campus right next door, which all students can use. There is also a new Mental Health Strategy Document that I am part of that will help with the way administration looks at mental health and how to make students more comfortable. STU also has a mental health week which promotes positive events all around campus as well as the promotion of Bell Let’s Talk Day.

Do you have any school year self-care tips to share with other students? 
 Don’t over work yourself!! Make sure you have time for you because your mental health is extremely important, take time for yourself every week where you can de-stress and just relax.
