The Little Things

Posted by Adam Horan on

Self-care is very important, not only for your mental health, but also for yourself in general. The production of endorphins, or "the happy drug", in your brain can turn your mood around almost instantly. Now, that is great and all, but what happens when you have 4 papers, a project, work, studying, volunteering, and somewhere in there sleeping all in your schedule? You forget about yourself (and your endorphins) and that's okay, we are all forgetful, but there are easy ways to do self-care without taking a bath or binge watching Netflix.

The little things in life are usually taken for granted (cliché, I know), but they can be beneficial for your mental health without taking up too much time. Most of them are so simple that you probably already do them with out even noticing. But hey! Look at you doing good things for yourself! *pats self on back*

Brushing Your Teeth

This is the easiest and simplest thing! It takes two minutes and also gives you that fresh breaths that BAE will love.

Jazz Up Your Shower Routine
Waking up in the morning can be rough, but adding in a shower with some good music gets the blood flowing and your eyes open!

Get in a Routine
Speaking of waking up, getting on a schedule of waking up at the same time everyday of the week (yes, including weekends) sets your brain up for a consistent rhythm and promotes higher brain activity.

Make Your Bed
Crawling back into bed is the best part of the day, am I right? The worst is crawling out of it, even more right, but making your bed in the morning gives you that sense of accomplishment, even if your still half asleep.

The worst day of the week is laundry day, 10 out of 10 would not recommend, but having those fresh clean clothes after gives the body a sense of entitlement that allows you to SLAY ALL DAMN DAY!

Brush It Out
If you're like me and have no hair this one might be rough, but brushing your hair (or beard) let's your hair grow and be soft, also producing endorphins!

It's the little things that might get you through the day, that get you up and going, or allow you to snuggle up at night, but don't forget about yourself. Sometimes those big Self-Care Sundays are very important and you deserve it! Get out there Glen Coco and slay with self-care.
