Welcome back for another year! What is your favorite thing about being a Campus Rep?
Welcome back to school from your favorite former Disney cast member (I will never let you forget)! I'm so happy to be back with Wear Your Label and to be working with the team again. My favorite thing about being a CR is the connections I've been able to make with people who understand not only my struggles but my passions for change, with other CRs and with people that have seen my posts and reached out to me. It really has given me a better purpose in my social media use and made me more mindful of the people around me.
What do you wish you knew about university before you started?
Before I started school this year, I wish I would've remembered that not doing perfectly doesn't mean not doing well.
Hard classes are hard, and we all have bad grades and bad tests and it's okay. There are chances to do better and opportunities to improve in all different areas, not just in grades. Doing well in school does not mean not making a single mistake.
How do you fight stigma on your campus?
A lot of my stigma fighting is person-to-person and over social media. I talk about my MIs whenever it comes up to try to and normalize the topic and the idea that people live with them. I've been able to see how people react a little differently now than they used to when I say something about it--it's refreshing to see understanding in their eyes instead of confusion or judgement.
What is your fav place to spend some serious self-care time when you're on campus?
My favorite place on campus to have self-care time is actually the library. The Harold B. Lee Library on BYU campus is the largest academic library in the nation (maybe the world? I can't recall) and the second floor has a huge section that's quiet and full of students studying and reading and it's seriously the most relaxing place I've ever been. There's a fireplace with couches all around it, and that's my most favorite place to sit and do homework or study or even take a nap.
What are you most looking forward to this semester?
This semester I'm looking forward to pushing my limits when it comes to participation. I'm in one play and stage managing another and directing another. I'm going to be so busy all semester and I can't wait to see how I can use my time management skills (they've got to be in my brain somewhere) to see what I'm really capable of. That's something I highly recommend.
